Notre Dame Nature Study Club

Founded in 1984, NDNSC is Bangladesh's first nature club established within an educational institution.

The club was initiated by Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan with the vision of promoting the conservation of nature, fostering a deeper understanding of the environment, and instilling environmental awareness among young minds. Over the years, NDNSC has grown into a pioneering force, leading nature-based activities across the country and inspiring the next generation to become responsible stewards of the planet. In recognition of its continued excellence, NDNSC was awarded the Best Nature Club Award in 2018 by the US Embassy and the American Centre, acknowledging its outstanding contributions to environmental education. A Legacy of Environmental Leadership

For nearly four decades, NDNSC has blazed a trail in environmental education and conservation. In 1987, just three years after its inception, the club organized its first nature-based seminar, marking the beginning of a tradition of knowledge-sharing that continues to this day. NDNSC’s focus on preserving nature and educating students has made it the “mother” of all nature, eco, earth, and environmental clubs across Bangladesh. In recognition of its continued excellence, NDNSC was awarded the Best Nature Club Award in 2018 by the US Embassy and the American Centre, acknowledging its outstanding contributions to environmental education.

In 2020, amid global challenges, NDNSC adapted swiftly by hosting the 1st Virtual Green Fest-2020: International Edition, engaging participants from 14 countries. This event was a trailblazer, showcasing how virtual platforms could unite global communities for environmental action. In 2021, the collaborative spirit reached new heights with the Bangladesh Earth Summit 2021, a historic event involving nine nature clubs. The year also saw the 2nd Virtual Green Fest-2021: International Edition, the largest virtual gathering for nature conservation, attracting participants from 20 countries. In 2022, NDNSC hosted the 13th National Nature Summit, Bangladesh’s first truly National Nature Festival, bringing together participants from over 190 institutions across all eight divisions. This event solidified NDNSC’s national presence and highlighted its commitment to educating students across the country.

That same year, the club launched its quarterly E-magazine ‘La-Terre’, providing a platform for young environmentalists to share research, insights, and stories about nature and conservation.

Goals of the Club

  • To promote eco-friendly understanding and encourage sustainable practices within and beyond the Notre Dame College community.
  • To inspire students, teachers, and guardians of NDC to work collectively toward environmental conservation and responsible citizenship.
  • To uphold the values of Notre Dame College by combining scientific awareness with moral responsibility for protecting nature.
  • To build international collaboration and empower youth leadership in addressing global environmental challenges.
  • To foster a lifelong love for nature, encouraging future generations to actively contribute to reducing pollution and combating climate change.
